Applications open for WSU Chelan-Douglas Master Gardener training program

Posted

WENATCHEE — The application period is open through Aug. 30 for residents interested in becoming WSU Chelan-Douglas Master Gardener trainees. Selected participants will begin a 20-week training program in early October that combines online coursework with in-person, skills-building classes.

The Master Gardener track, costing $275, includes online learning, about a dozen Saturday morning in-person sessions, field trips and skills-building workshops. Successful completion of the training and internship requirements is necessary to attain certified WSU Master Gardener status. Certified volunteers must complete at least 35 volunteer hours and 10 hours of continuing education annually to maintain certification.

An alternative Washington Gardener Certificate track, at $550, offers the 20-week online component without the volunteer commitment.

The WSU Chelan-Douglas Master Gardener Program provides opportunities for participants to expand their gardening knowledge, connect with others who share similar interests, and contribute to the community by promoting environmentally responsible gardening practices and healthy living through gardening.
