Army Ranger KIA in Afghanistan was born in Brewster

LEAVENWORTH – A U.S. Army Ranger Team Leader killed in action in Afghanistan on Nov. 24, was born in Brewster 25 years ago.

Services for Sergeant Leandro Antonio Sleeper Jasso, of Leavenworth, will be held at 9 a.m., Sunday, Dec.. 9, at Cascade High School where he graduated in 2012. A funeral procession will depart Heritage Memorial Chapel in East Wenatchee at 9:30 a.m. Sunday for the trip to Cascade High School.

According to his obituary, Jasso was born in Brewster on June 19, 1993. Jasso spent his adolescent years with his adoptive family in Entiat, North Bend, and Leavenworth. He completed his basic training at Fort Benning, GA, graduated Airborn School in January 2013 and became a Ranger in July that same year. Jasso graduated Ranger School in 2016 and was promoted to Sergeant.

Jasso was an automatic rifleman and served as Ranger Team Leader in Alpha Company, 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment assigned to Joint Base Lewis-McChord from December 2016 until his death last month.

“Lando” to his friends was on his third overseas deployment when he sustained mortal wounds in a firefight with Al-Qaeda forces in the Khash Rod District of Nimruz province in southwest Afghanistan.
