OKANOGAN — Team Okanogan Animal Rescue and Greater Good Charities reported that 1,132 animals were spayed and neutered during the four-day Big Fix 5.0 clinic held May 13-16 at the Okanogan County Fairgrounds, the largest event in the program's history.

According to the organizations, the clinic marked a 20% increase in dogs served compared with previous events. The total number of animals served through Big Fix spay, neuter, vaccination and microchipping programs has reached 5,473 during the past two years.

The event also included Trap-Neuter-Return efforts at more than 25 locations throughout Okanogan County. Organizers said the program aims to reduce community cat populations and improve the health of feral cat colonies.

In addition, volunteers distributed more than 44,000 pounds of donated pet food and animal care supplies to pet owners and animal caretakers in the region.

“Big Fix 5.0 is proof of what compassion, teamwork, and community support can accomplish,” TOAR President Jill Servais said. “We’re deeply grateful to every volunteer, partner, and supporter who made this effort possible. Every animal altered means fewer unwanted litters, less suffering, and a better life for pets and the families who love them.”

Big Fix 5.0 was conducted through a partnership between TOAR and Greater Good Charities. The event also received in-kind support from Humane World for Animals and Chewy, as well as financial support from an anonymous donor, according to organizers.

“Greater Good Charities is proud to stand alongside TOAR in delivering these vital services to the Okanogan community,” said Dr. Ruth Parkin, executive vice president of veterinary services at Greater Good Charities. “Reaching more than 1,100 animals in just four days is a tremendous achievement, and it reflects the dedication of everyone involved—from our veterinary teams in the field to the community members who trust us with the animals they love.”

Organizers said the next Big Fix clinic is scheduled for Oct. 29 through Nov. 1 at the Okanogan County Fairgrounds.
