BREWSTER – The Brewster Chamber of Commerce held its final meeting of the year last Wednesday, Dec. 21, at its headquarters in the Senior Center building. President Mike Mauk recapped some of the 2022 events and looked ahead to the 2023 calendar.

The Brewster King Salmon Derby donated to several non-profits in 2022 including the Brewster Boys and Girls Club, the Brewster-Pateros-Bridgeport Senior Center, and the Brewster Food Bank.

Among changes discussed for next year is celebrating Mexican Independence Day on Cinco de Mayo (May 5) perhaps combined with Mother’s Day, rather than in mid-September when fruit harvest work is underway.

Mauk said if that is what the organizers decide to do, the Chamber will be involved.

“They will hold the event and we’ll host it,” Mauk said.

The Chamber plans to once again organize the Independence Day Parade and arrange the vendors. Mauk said the Chamber has also agreed to arrange vendors for the Tony Newton Memorial Regatta Hydro Races that return to Brewster next August.

Plans are already underway for the 2023 Salmon Derby next August 4-6.

“We had a very successful event this year with Tonic Eyewear getting all the banners, flags and tablecloths for the event and it looked spectacular,” said Mauk, “We are hearing an even bigger salmon return than last year and last year was a record breaker,” Mauk said.

Next year’s Chamber plans include awarding a couple of scholarships to local students.

“We started our advertising early and will be at the Wenatchee Valley Sportsmen Show, at the Town Toyota Center in Wenatchee and Big Horn Outdoor Adventure Show March 16-19 at the Spokane Expo Center in Spokane shows. We opened ticket sales for the events as of Dec 5,” Mauk said.

Editors Note: Wenatchee Valley Sportsmen Show, at the Town Toyota Center in Wenatchee has been cancelled.
