Bridgeport Chamber calls for Easter volunteers

Posted

BRIDGEPORT – Few people get to cross off their bucket list the thrill of filling thousands of plastic Easter eggs with candies and surprises. If you are one of those few your opportunity is just around the corner. The Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce is inviting volunteers to help fill plastic Easter eggs at 6 p.m., March 21, in the city library at 1206 Columbia Avenue.

“A couple thousand eggs,” said Chamber president Jose Sanchez of the quantity to fill. “We put a candy in each one. We’ll try to do a thousand that day and go from there,” Sanchez said.

Easter preparation was the main topic of discussion at the regular monthly meeting of the Chamber on Feb. 15. A major change from last year’s hunt is that this one will be held in Bouska Park across from city hall rather than Berryman Park.

The city is in the early stages of upgrading its Berryman facilities.

“They pulled some of the toys out,” said Sanchez.

Again, this year, the hunt will be divided among three age groups from toddlers to 13 years of age.

The next event on the Chamber’s agenda is the city's biggest, Bridgeport Daze. This year’s three-day run will be from June 7-9. The parade will be held on Saturday, June 8.

A new addition to Bridgeport Daze this year is a T-shirt design contest. Details are listed on the Chamber's Facebook website.

The design elements must include Chief Joseph Dam, Bridgeport Daze 2024, and a representation of Bridgeport. The deadline for design submissions is March 18. The winner will be announced on March 22 and receive a $50 VISA gift card and a free T-shirt.
