Chamber volunteers stage a revitalized Bridgeport Daze

Posted

Bridgeport – Thanks in large part to a reconstituted Chamber of Commerce, Bridgeport’s biggest annual event, Bridgeport Daze, is once again filling up the first weekend of June with a parade, floats, classic cars, dancing horses, vendors in Fireman Park, three-on-three basketball, Jack & Jill softball, and more.

Chamber spokesman Jose Sanchez said the chamber crossed all the t’s and dotted all the i’s involved in organizational paperwork to conduct the event on a sound footing.

“We have to go to all the venues to make sure everything is done properly,” said Sanchez. “The city, the D.O.T. (Department of Transportation), there are lots of permits and things.”

Sanchez said that along with an Easter egg hunt staged earlier this year, the chamber is considering some additional events, perhaps even the July 4th holiday.

“We have a solid group right now,” said Sanchez as he looked about him. “All these people right here, they are all volunteers donating their time.” Sanchez that with the core group he has the chamber will continue to improve with new holiday functions. “It’s going to get better and better,” Sanchez said.
