BRIDGEPORT – Douglas County Commissioner Marc Straub called on the city council on Feb. 19 to offer the services of the county’s planning director and his staff is available to assist the city with the process of updating its comprehensive plan.

Straub also invited Mayor Sergio Orozco and city planner Kurt Danison to join other city mayors and planners to attend the regional council meeting where the subject will be a land analysis for the entire county.

“It’s really vital to everything we will be doing as part of the (county) update,” Straub said.

McNeil Canyon

Straub also announced a pending realignment of the lower section of McNeil Canyon Road.

Anyone who has traveled the steep and winding canyon road is aware of its more challenging aspects compared to other highway routes.

“There is a hairpin turn at the bottom,” said Straub. “That’s going to be taken out and there is going to be a complete realignment of that lower section.”

The bid for a contractor went out at the end of February. A contractor is expected to be selected in March, and construction work will get underway by early summer.

“A lot of our citizens travel and utilize McNeil Canyon Road,” said Straub. “Part of the realignment will involve reducing the grade to around nine percent from the present 12 percent at its steepest.”

Moderate Risk Waste Facility

Zacher Processing Center located on the south side of East Wenatchee at 6114 Batterman Road will be available again this year to accept household paints, solvents, and other products citizens with when it comes to disposal.

“Last year we funded this facility,” said Straub. “It will be all free for our Douglas County citizens.”

Donations will be welcomed to help cover costs.
