ORONDO — Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a suspected homicide after an unresponsive man was found in a vehicle along U.S. Highway 97 about 7 miles south of the Beebe Bridge in the early afternoon of November 12.

Responding just after 12 p.m. to a report near milepost 228, DCSO deputies, Washington State Patrol troopers, Douglas County Fire District 4 responders and Lake Chelan Health EMS arrived to find a lone male occupant in the vehicle who was unresponsive.

Despite attempting life-saving measures upon arrival, Undersheriff Tyler Caille said the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators noted that his injuries seemed to be consistent with gunshot wounds.

Sheriff’s personnel closed a portion of U.S. 97 for several hours while detectives processed the scene and evidence. Contractors from the Washington State Department of Transportation established a detour route using a nearby loop road during the closure.

At this time, additional information about the victim’s identity has not been released. Anyone with information is asked to contact RiverCom Dispatch at 509-663-9911.
