EAST WENATCHEE — Douglas County Undersheriff Tyler Caille has declared his candidacy for the office of Sheriff, stepping forward to succeed longtime Sheriff Kevin Morris, who recently announced he will retire after more than 30 years of service.

Caille, who currently serves as Undersheriff with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, said he is running to lead the department into its next chapter and to continue providing effective law enforcement services to residents across the county.

Morris announced his retirement effective March 1, 2026, saying it had been an honor and a privilege to serve the community over three decades.

As Undersheriff, Caille is second-in-command of the sheriff’s office, a role he has held while working alongside Morris and other county deputies and staff. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for protecting lives and property across the county and providing law enforcement services to both incorporated and unincorporated areas.

Caille brings extensive public safety experience to his campaign. He has served in law enforcement with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office for more than 18 years. Prior to that, he spent nearly three decades with Douglas County Fire District No. 5, where he served as Fire Chief and EMT-IV, giving him broad experience in emergency response, leadership, and interagency coordination.

In his current role, Caille has been involved in departmental operations, community engagement, and public safety initiatives, including events designed to strengthen relationships between first responders and residents. He has previously emphasized the importance of communication, professionalism, and community trust in effective law enforcement.

If elected, Caille has said he plans to build on the department’s existing efforts to address crime, support deputies and staff, and continue serving Douglas County with a focus on safety and accountability.

The election timeline for the Sheriff’s position has not yet been announced. The transition is expected to align with Morris’s retirement in early 2026.
