BREWSTER – Dozens of classic and custom cars and trucks – in this case nearly four dozen – turned out for an afternoon of music, food, fun, and craftsmanship at the 2024 Cars at the Cove held at the Brewster Boys and Girls Club on Saturday, August 31.
More than half a dozen hometown rides lined the parking lot together with entries from Bridgeport (5), Waterville (2), Chelan (5), Manson (2), Entiat (1), Omak (3), Okanogan (2), Tonasket (2), Coulee Dam (1), Quincy (1), and a bunch from East Wenatchee (11)/Wenatchee (5). Clubs represented included Del Valle Truckin (DVT) (20), Chelan County Car Club (CCCC) (3), and North Country Car Club (NCCC) (1).
An interesting feature of the Best of Show selection was the judges who rendered their choice; the kids who comprise the BBGC. As each turned a discerning eye toward the variety of vehicles that lined the parking lot, it was hard to miss the eventual winner, a bright yellow 1948 International KB-6 tow truck called the Beeline.
Owners Ron and Caprice Pratt of Okanogan created the showstopper in less than a year from a chassis here, a frame there, tow boom apparatus from a third, and oversized tires from a fourth. Throw them all together in a garage over the winter with the right hobbyist, and viola!, something every youngster would love to pilot around the oval.
