Hawkins makes it official, files for Chelan County Commissioner

WENATCHEE - On the first day of candidate filing week, State Senator Brad Hawkins (R-Wenatchee) officially declared his candidacy for the open position of Chelan County Commissioner, District 3. The filing is no surprise, as Hawkins previously announced he was entering the race.

"I am so grateful for all the support and encouragement that my family has received recently related to my decision to run," said Hawkins. "I'm very excited to focus my public service to Chelan County and my family is super excited about me being here year-round."

Hawkins, a two-term state senator, has served in the legislature since 2017 and previously served as a state representative and school board member. He is known for his effective communication and putting public service before politics.

"I hope the people of Chelan County – the county where I was raised – will support my commitment to keep serving them," Hawkins said. "If given the opportunity, I know I could do a great job in the commissioner's role and serve well into the future."

Continuing a Family Legacy

Hawkins' decision to run for county commissioner holds special significance, as his father, Buell Hawkins, previously served two terms in the same position before retiring early to care for his ailing wife.

"The more I thought about it and reflected on the opportunity, the more I realized what a good fit it could be, not only because of my current representation of Chelan County, but also because of my family's history with this position," Hawkins said.

Priorities for Chelan County

If elected, Hawkins says he plans to focus on a range of issues important to Chelan County residents, including:

- Growing the county economy
- Mitigating growing property taxes
- Maintaining a balanced budget
- Promoting local tourism
- Reducing wildfire risks
- Ensuring public safety
- Supporting the agricultural base
- Delivering housing solutions
- Encouraging the tech sector
- Partnering with city governments
- Identifying transportation solutions
- Enhancing outdoor recreation

"I pride myself in being a good communicator, sharing facts, working effectively, and getting results," Hawkins said. "I have gained valuable experience throughout my career working with Chelan County elected officials, business leaders, and community groups. I hope to put all of that experience to the best use for the people of Chelan County."

Hawkins holds a Master's Degree from George Washington University's School of Public Policy and Administration and a Bachelor's Degree with honors from Central Washington University. He and his wife Shawna have been married since 2002 and have two teenage boys.

The primary election for Chelan County Commissioner will be held on August 6, with the general election following on November 5.
