Locally raised vet volunteers with overwhelmed Big Fix staff

Posted

OKANOGAN – The Bix Fix free spay and neuter clinic again reached the capacity cutoff point for the number of animals they can treat for today (Wednesday, May 8) after many pet owners camped overnight at the Okanogan Fairgrounds Agriplex to ensure a spot in the morning’s registration process. The veterinary staff can treat a maximum of about 250 animals per day as they approach a goal of altering 1,000 cats and dogs during the campaign’s four-day tour.

Team Okanogan Animal Rescue (TOAR), the local non-profit hosting the event, has issued an urgent for donated cat carriers on its website, facebook.com/teamOKanimalrescue/, to everyone who has spare carriers they can drop off at the Agriplex.

Among the crew of veterinarians working with the project this week is a vet with local roots, Dr. Miranda Cleveland, DVM. The 2014 Okanogan High School graduate was raised in Okanogan County and graduated WSU in 2022. The TOAR Facebook site noted that while Dr. Cleveland lives elsewhere, she volunteered to return to her home county to work with the Big Fix crew.
