Mother’s Day hits a high note in Brewster

Posted

BREWSTER – Any doubts about whether the combined Cinco de Mayo/Dia de la Madre (Mother’s Day) would bring out the crowd was answered amply and with amps on Saturday, May 13.

“I think close to 1,000 people attended throughout the day,” said Mike Mauk of the Brewster Chamber of Commerce. “So many happy smiling faces and the county fair vibe.”

The weather was hot during the day but cooled off as evening settled in.

A pair of 40-foot trailers parked end-to-end across Main Street at Sixth served as a portable stage for the event's four bands. The music played throughout the day and concluded with the headliner group Reyna Sur.

Traditional dance groups performed, and a dozen dancing horses joined in.

Mi Pueblo owner and event coordinator Esteban Camacho and the Brewster Business Association went the extra mile to ensure a successful event.

Juana Garcia of Brewster was awarded Mother of the Year, sponsored by P1FCU. Garcia received some nice gifts donated by local businesses, and a plaque.

There were no complaints about the loud noise.

Next up is the 4th of July. Vendor and parade applications are available on the chamber website, brewsterwachamber.com and at the chamber office at the Senior Center. Sponsors are needed.
