Paula (Laurie, Conger) Peckham

Deer Park, Washington

(formerly of Pateros, Washington)

Paula passed away on June 7, 2023, at the age of 94, in Deer Park, Washington. She was born on February 22, 1929, in Pateros, Wash. She was one of seven children, five of whom also preceded her in death.

Paula was very active in the Brewster Senior Center, having acted as President and Vice-president for over six years. She made the “rummage section” of the senior center a great little second-hand store, relying on her experience in retail from previous work of over 20 years, at the Sandpoint Naval Air Station in Seattle, Washington. She retired from there in the 1990’s.

Paula and husband, Walt were a great team of volunteers for over 20 years. Paula administratively; Walt doing handyman work around the senior center. They kept the place running well. During their shared retirement years, they enjoyed traveling together around the country in their fifth wheel, visiting friends, family, and attending reunions. After Walt passed away, Paula moved to find her last permanent residence and landed in Deer Park, moving there in March of 2021. She moved only blocks from her daughter, Carolyn Johnson, who took care of Paula and her life concerns, so she could live independently. Paula suffered a stroke on June 1, 2023.

Paula was preceded in death by her first husband, Gordon Conger, in 1974. She remarried, in 1996, to Walter Peckham, who passed in 2019. Her son, Paul Conger, also preceded her in death, in 1991.

Her survivors are one sister, Annone Diamond, from Lansing, Michigan; six children: Marilyn Howshall (Jim) of Post Falls, Idaho, Carolyn Johnson of Deer Park, Washington, Gordon Conger of Post Falls, Idaho, Roberta Treichel of Rathdrum, Idaho, Edward Conger of Riverside, Washington, and Ronald Conger of Arlington, Washington; 21 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are being made with Barnes Chapel, 510 Indian Ave., Brewster, WA, 98812. Please leave your thoughts and memories at www.barneschapel.com.

Services will be held at Barnes Chapel at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 23, 2023. Graveside service will be immediately following at the Pateros, WA, cemetery.
