Rain does not dampen Brewsters July 4 festivities

Posted

BREWSTER – Despite the rain squalls that were part of nearly every day or night during the first week of July the Independence Day parade found an opening in the weather that allowed the long line of vehicles and marchers to make their way down Main Avenue and Seventh Avenue to Columbia Cove Park late Monday morning.

Following breakfast hosted by the Brewster Fire Department from 7-9 a.m. parade participants began lining up at the Legion Park at the east end of Main. The Columbia Post 97 honor guard posted the colors complete with rifle volley and taps that signaled the procession to begin.

Venders were set up and waiting as customers began arriving for the food and live entertainment leading up to the fireworks display over the river after dark. Later in the afternoon wind and rain finally caught up with the celebration but was too little and too late to do anything more than drop a little damp on the crowd of spectators.
