Two Wenatchee Valley College trustees resign

Posted

WENATCHEE — Two members of the Wenatchee Valley College Board of Trustees have resigned, leaving the five-member governing board with two vacancies.

The college announced Monday that trustees Wilma Cartagena and Paula Arno Martinez voluntarily resigned from the board, effective immediately. Both previously served as chair of the Board of Trustees during their respective appointments.

WVC President Faimous Harrison informed employees of the resignations during an all-district meeting Monday morning.

"I want to thank Wilma and Paula for their service and leadership to our board during their terms, and wish them well in their future endeavors," Harrison said in a news release.

The college did not provide a reason for either resignation.

Under state law, the Washington State Governor's Office will oversee the appointment process for new trustees. College officials said they will work with the governor's office to ensure a smooth transition and will provide updates as the process moves forward.

Wenatchee Valley College's Board of Trustees consists of five district residents appointed by the governor to renewable five-year terms. The board is responsible for overseeing the college's budget, strategic direction and fulfillment of its educational mission.
