Six candidates have thrown their hats in the ring for the empty board member seat at Three Rivers Hospital: Martin Nolan, Gary Logan, Michael Knox, Jerry Tretwold, David Werlein and Danna Guzman.

The seat was left by Bill Bayless of Mansfield, who resigned citing scheduling difficulties.

The candidates will be asked to make presentations to the board at the next meeting, set for 4 p.m. at the Hillcrest administration building. The public is invited to attend and ask questions of the candidates after the interviews are over.

Earth Day is this Sunday, April 22. There aren't any Quad City events the likes of Chelan's annual Earth Day Fair, but Bridgeport is having a city clean-up event Saturday afternoon, followed by an appreciation potluck for the volunteers at Marina Park.

On Sunday, the Methow Conservancy is inviting volunteers to help spruce up a two-mile section of Highway 20 between Twisp and Winthrop (milepost 197-199). It will be done from 10 a.m. to noon. Call Laurelle Walsh at 996-4484 for more information. A dinner will follow at 5 p.m. for $10 at the Arrowleaf Bistro, with all proceeds going to the Methow Conservancy.
