Congrats are in order

No more school, no more books... until college begins in two months, that is! Congratulations and best of luck to the classes of 2012 in Brewster, Bridgeport, Mansfield and Pateros, all of which graduated Friday and Saturday.

While seniors were celebrating Friday, the Quad City Herald observed its own milestone: the fifth anniversary of ownership under NCW Media, Inc. Grange news

Submitted by Marge Hagy, the Brewster Grange No. 1018 will next meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 14. There will be a potluck, with the meeting to follow. The May 10 meeting had 13 people in attendance. The guest speaker was unable to make it due to a family emergency. A report was given on the Grange's latest project, where hundreds of dictionaries were donated to area elementary schools and home-schooled third graders, and a general question-and-answer period followed. A new member was also voted in, raising the Grange's ranks to about 60.

Romney chooses McMorris Rodgers

Presidental candidate Mitt Romney has announced that U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA, 5th District) will serve as his campaign's point person in the House of Representatives.

"I am honored that Congresswoman McMorris Rodgers has agreed to take a leadership role on behalf of the campaign," Romney said in a media statement. "She understands the impact of the economic challenges Americans face and the need to put our country on a better track."

"Governor Romney has demonstrated the leadership and vision that we have been fighting for in Congress to stop runaway government spending and create an environment for job creation," McMorris Rodgers said.

McMorris Rodgers is now in her fourth term in Congress. She was elected by her colleagues to serve as a member of the Republican Leadership team in 2009 as vice chair of the House GOP Conference. Prior to serving in the House, she served five terms as a citizen legislator in Olympia, eventually being elected to minority leader.
