Spam e-mail alert

North Cascades National Bank is alerting its customers to an scam of e-mails claiming to be from the Federal Reserve.

"The spam email is written in plain text, has no logo and the 'From' address is obviously not from the Federal Reserve," states a notice from the bank. "Details of the 'transaction' differ on each message, but the text is basically the same. Detail in the subject line varies, but could include 'immediate transfer approved,' 'same day transfer sent successfully,' 'wire transfer sent successfully' or 'immediate transfer complete.'"

The bank urges everyone who receives such an e-mail to immediately delete it and contact your local NCNB branch to report it.

"Please be aware that clicking on any associated link or attachments could expose you to malicious software, also known as malware, that could potentially compromise your computer and online security," the bank's letter states.

'Back to the future'

An invitation from Brewster School District Superintendent Eric Driessen:

"How would you like to go back in time and experience the future? You can, just contact the Brewster School District and they will make it happen. For many patrons who have not been 'back to school' in a while, this will be an excellent opportunity to view first-hand the important advances that have been made in our public schools, advances in curriculum, technology, and in rigor. You will experience and observe students doing world-class work in math, science and literacy.

You will visit students involve in the arts, humanities, and leadership. You will visit classrooms, class transitions, and experience a sample of a day as a student.

"These visitation days will be a great opportunity to renew your acquaintance with the Brewster school district, but my hope is that your visit will also be the beginning of something much more. I hope that your visit will be the beginning of an interactive relationship between community and school. Our school is an essential foundation of our society preparing not just today's students, but preparing them for the work force and higher education. Partnering with the school strengthens and expands opportunities for our students to develop skills for the next step.

"Please contact one of the following offices to have a 'Back to the Future' experience for yourself.
