The Brewster Senior Center is again sponsoring a Children's Christmas Shopping day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8. Children can shop for their family and have their purchased gift-wrapped and ready to hide away until Dec. 25. Parents can take pictures of their children on Santa's lap, as well.
Legion pool tourney
American Legion Post 97 hosts its weekly pool tournament each Sunday starting at 2 p.m. Entry fee is $5. There were eight players at the Nov. 18 tournament. Keith Downing won first place, Gary Ives won second and Tony Cleveland took third.

Hurry on over to the Community Log Church every Wednesday for Bible stories, songs, snacks, games and much more fun! This opportunity is open to kids in kindergarten through sixth grades after school, from 3:15 to 5 p.m. The church is located at 209 S. 4th St.
HOSTS
The Brewster Elementary School HOSTS program is looking for mentors to work with students in reading. HOSTS is an acronym for "Help One Student To Succeed." Kids work one-on-one with a mentor for 45 minutes from Tuesday through Friday. It is a very rewarding program to see the growth in the kids, but the main thing about our program is the lifelong bond that is made between a student and the mentor. Help a local cancer patient
The family of Brittan Schmidt, who has a rare form of brain cancer, has established a fund to help pay for medical expenses as he undergoes treatment. Donations can be dropped off at Sterling Bank and Wells Fargo Bank in Brewster.

See old friends, make new ones
A group of women that began gathering in 2003 and gave themselves the unofficial nickname "Sisters from Different Misters" will meet Nov. 27 for an after 5 dress-up ladies' night at Rivers Restaurant. Hors d'ouevres and wine will be served, and there will be a cover charge of $20 or less. All women from the Quad Cities are invited to come dressed up, or however they're comfortable, to enjoy some good food and good times. Pateros sports awards
The Fall Sports Awards Dessert will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26 in the school commons. The volleyball, football, and cross country teams will be honored. Everyone is invited, and please bring a dessert to be shared.

Water Lab closure
The Okanogan County Public Health Water Laboratory will be closed from Thursday, Nov. 22 through Friday, Nov. 23 in honor of the Thanksgiving holiday. In addition, nitrate samples will not be accepted on Wednesday, Nov. 21. Coliform bacteria samples will still be accepted on Nov. 21. Regular laboratory service will resume Monday, Nov. 26. Noxious weed conference
The Okanogan County Noxious Weed Control Board is sponsoring our fall noxious weed conference, which will be worth eight credits towards your pesticide license! Presenters at the conference will discuss water quality, adjuvants, tank cleaning and drift reduction; spray equipment cleaning, winterizing, and calibration; noxious weed identification; pesticide storage; bio control; predicting the future of noxious weeds; agency updates; and our Class A invader watch. It will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at the Okanogan County Fairgrounds Annex/Agriplex.
