Red Cross encourages blood donations before holidays

Blood donations often decline from Thanksgiving to New Year's Day when holiday festivities pull people away from their donation appointments. This often causes a drop in the blood available for patients. Donations are needed in the weeks leading up to the holidays to help offset this seasonal decline. Upcoming blood donation opportunities:1:30 to 7 p.m. Nov. 2 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 3 at Kings Orchard Church of Christ, 1610 Orchard Ave., Wenatchee. (er43,44)

Spay/neuter clinic for cats coming Nov. 7

The Wenatchee Valley Humane Society is hosting its fourth cat spay/neuter clinic on Nov. 7 in a follow-up to the previous clinics held this past March, June and August. With help from the Feral Cat Spay/Neuter Project of Lynnwood, the clinics have so far spayed or neutered more than 200 cats - both feral/community and domestic. This clinic, like the last three, is available to those with lower incomes unable to afford the surgeries with a regular vet appointment. There is an approval process and $20 per cat fee. Owners of cats being altered also have the option of vaccines for an additional low cost. Contact Tamra Hively at thively@wenatcheehumane.org to begin this process. Appointments are made only after approval. Surgeries are by appointment only, no walk-ups are allowed the day of the clinic.

This upcoming clinic will be at Wenatchee Community Center, 504 S. Chelan, Wenatchee. For information, visit www.wenatcheehumane.org.

Wenatchee Valley Humane Society is an independent non-profit shelter.
