Youth basketball

The 2015 Cashmere Youth Basketball season is here. We invite all girls and boys in 3rd - 6th grade to join us no matter what your skill level. Registration starts Sept. 1 and ends Oct. 1. All registration information can be found at www.cashmereyouthbasketball.com or call 509-421-1115. (er35,36)

CHS Booster Club Barbecue

A barbecue will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Cashmere High School football field to introduce community members to the fall sports coaches, players and cheerleaders. It is being sponsored by the CHS Booster Club. There will be hot dogs with all the fixings, chips, drinks and ice cream. The cost is by donation. In case of smokey or other bad weather, the event will be held in the high school gym. (er35)

BPW Accepting Nominations for Woman of the Year

Wenatchee Business and Professional Women (BPW) is now accepting nominations for the 2015 Woman of the Year. This award honors women who have displayed exemplary service, advocacy and support for women in the workplace. Nomination forms are available at by emailing info@bpwwen.org and are due by Sept. 21. BPW will honor the 2015 Woman of Year at the annual Woman of the Year luncheon on Tuesday, Oct. 21 from noon-1:30 p.m. at the Wenatchee Valley Convention Center. Tickets are $25 and can be be purchased online at bpwwen.org. All proceeds from the BPW Wenatchee Women of the Year luncheon go to support the Business and Professional Women of Wenatchee's scholarship program. (er34,35)

NCW Quilt Guild's "Harvest of Quilts" quilt show

North Central Washington Quilt Guild invites you to its annual "Harvest of Quilts" quilt show. The show will be held on Sept. 11, 12 at the Town Toyota Center. Show hours are Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. $5 admission at the door. In addition to displaying over 200 beautiful quilts, the show will feature a Quilters Boutique, Silent and Live Demonstrations, an opportunity to buy a ticket for our lovely raffle quilt. (er34,35)

Wildfire Relief Fund

United Way of Chelan and Douglas Counties established a wildfire relieve fund in June in response to the Sleepy Hollow Fires, and started a new effort Aug. 20, spurred by The City of Seattle who is allowing employee's to make payroll deduction donations to United Way though the month of September. On Aug. 24 a new partnership was formed with KOMO News based in Seattle. KOMO4 is teaming up with United Way of Chelan and Douglas Counties to raise money for those affected by the wildfires. 100 percent of the contributions will go directly to the relieve efforts. There are two ways to donate. You can go directly to the United Way's Wildfire Releive Fund (www.uwcdc.org) or you can go through the KOMO 4 Problem Solvers donation page. United Way will be working with organizations based in individual communities to coordinate best uses and areas of need in distributing the funds. (er35,36)
