National Night Out a success

BREWSTER – There were almost too many activities for families and youngsters who turned out for the Brewster Police Department’s fourth annual National Night Out on Tuesday, August 6. The two-hour event had attractions both inside and outside the Brewster Boys and Girls Club where the action went down.
Food, games, and information booths were going on inside the BBGC while fire, emergency, sheriff, and city vehicles parked outside on Cliff Avenue provided a variety of close-up and hands-on experiences for the kids.
The Brewster Chamber of Commerce donated free hot dog, chips and water.
“Chamber members advised me that about 130 hot dogs were given out during the event,” Brewster Police Nattalie Cariker said.
The Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office communication center/dispatch had a booth where dispatcher Heather Priest provided information material and tested children’s knowledge of questions a dispatcher would ask when calling 9-1-1.
Washington State Patrol Lieutenant Kelly Gregerson and Sargeant Lindquist distributed informational material at the WSP booth.
Three Rivers Family Medicine provided free sports physicals while Three Rivers Hospital, Family Health Centers and Okanogan Behavioral HealthCare had booths and provided information/services.
Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Tait Everett and K-9 Havoc attended the event and children were able to throw a tennis ball for Havoc to fetch. New sheriff’s deputy Anthony Coble accompanied Sgt. Everett and Havoc.
The Brewster Police Department had a booth where officer Adam Nichols assisted by Brewster City Council member Avis Erickson helped children with free bike raffle sign up, free Frisbees, coloring books, information pamphlets, gun locks, and Child ID and Kid Kits.
Outside the BBGC Brewster Police Department and WSP vehicles were on display.
Brewster Police Department Administrative Assistant Juana Escobar provided free child car seat inspections.
Brewster Public Works had two loaders and children were able to sit on the seats.
Brewster Fire Department had a fire truck handy with gear and let children use the fire hose to water the grass on the soccer field.
Douglas Okanogan County FD 15 had an ambulance on display for children to climb inside and check out.
Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue had the SAR truck and UTV on display.
Two Brewster youngsters, Angel and Daniela, were the lucky bike raffle winners.
“The Brewster Police Department appreciates everyone’s participation at the National Night Out event,” Cariker said.
