Santa Claus comes to Bridgeport in a big way

Posted

BRIDGEPORT – With bells, lights, and fanfare, Santa Claus came to Bridgeport on Monday, Dec. 10, where youngsters by the scores awaited his arrival at downtown Buska Park.

City council member Anthony Jenkins, who oversaw this year’s celebration, said more than 150 youngsters along with parents turned out for the gifts, refreshments and fun at the park.

“It was very cold, and we had a little snow,” said Jenkins. “This was my first time overseeing the event, so it was a learning curve for me.”

The little ones didn’t need a learning curve to welcome Santa and Mrs. Claus who arrived on a light-studded fire truck and posed for photos with the kids.

Along with gifts that Jenkins helped hand out, each child received a Builda-Smores bag with candy canes, graham crackers, marshmallows and the trimmings to make the snack.

Jenkins said he was surprised when some parents tried to pay him for the city’s generosity of gifts and treats but he advised them that everything was free.

Jenkins said he hopes to apply his experience from this year’s Santa visit to put together an even bigger event next season.
