Nannies bounce back to beat RC in five sets

Headed to District 6 playoffs
“Strong offense at the net by Sarah Poole in the first set and Taylor Harrild in the second kept Pateros close,” Vazquez said.

PATEROS – The Nannies varsity volleyball team ended their regular season with a dramatic, come-from-behind 3-2 win over Central Washington 1B League rival Riverside Christian on the road at Yakima last Saturday, Oct. 28.
Pateros “struggled at the service line during the first two sets,” said assistant varsity coach Ana Vazquez and let the Warriors take a two-set lead, 19-25 and 20-25.
“Strong offense at the net by Sarah Poole in the first set and Taylor Harrild in the second kept Pateros close,” Vazquez said.
With their backs to the wall and their 7-4 league record on the line against 6-5 RC, the Nannies rallied behind the strong serving of Samantha White and Anna Williams to win the third set, 25-13.
White and Williams would end the match with 16-18 and 16-23 serves respectively.
“Ashlyn Gonzalez took the lead in the fourth and Taylor Harrild had another big hitting set to force the tiebreaker,” said Vazquez of the Nannie’s 25-20, fourth-set victory.
Gonzalez would end the match with 21 or 23 serving and Harrild finished with a total of 11 kills.
Much was riding on the tiebreaker since the loser would face the undefeated 12-0 Entiat Tigers in the first round of District 6 playoffs.
“Both teams emptied the tank in the fifth with Sarah Poole’s three kills leading the Nannies to the victory,” Vazquez said of the 16-14 final score.
Poole led the Nannies with a total of 13 match kills.
Pateros, third place in the Central Washington 1B League, was scheduled to host 10-2 Wilson Creek on Wednesday, Nov. 1, in the first round of District 6 playoffs. The winner meets either No.4 Riverside Christian or No. 1 Entiat at 4 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 2 at Eastmont High School for the District 6 crown.
