Patricia Allingham Colpitts

Bonnie Patricia Allingham Colpitts passed away unexpectedly on October 21, 2022, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Bonnie was born on May 11, 1942, in Glendale, California. Her family moved to Medford, Oregon, when she was 6. She graduated from Medford High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in English and Secondary Education and a Master of Arts in Teaching, both from the University of Oregon. Bonnie began her teaching career in Oregon, working in the St. Helens, Corbett, and Salem School Districts. She moved to Brewster, Washington, in 1970, when she married. She worked in the Brewster School District for over 35 years, first teaching high school English, where she loved developing new classes on topics such as science fiction, multicultural literature, and the humanities, as well as serving as high school librarian. She also taught 5th grade language arts for several years and was K-12 librarian for the last portion of her career.

Bonnie had a lifelong love of classical music. She played the viola in the Okanogan Valley Orchestra from their second concert in 1978 until she moved to Seattle in 2007. Once in Seattle, she began playing with the West Seattle Community Orchestra and the Orchestra of Flight. Bonnie was often music librarian and a board member of the orchestras she played with.

Bonnie was an active member and lay leader at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Seattle and a volunteer with the Seattle Public Library’s Homework Help program. She enjoyed attending the symphony, camping, reading, and spending time with her family, including her two cats, Sallie and Belle. Bonnie loved a good conversation over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine.

She will be greatly missed by her family, daughter Anne Colpitts, son-in-law Mark Jordan, and grandson Leo Jordan, of Seattle; her sister Christy Woods, of Marcola, Oregon; many nieces and nephews, and numerous friends, old and new.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time. If you would like to make a donation in her memory, please consider donating to the Okanogan Valley Orchestra and Chorus (ovocmusic.org), the Orchestra of Flight (orchestraofflight.org), or The Kitty Rescue - Wenatchee (thekittyrescue.com).
