Bridgeport track teams finish among top three

BRIDGCEPORT – On the strength of first place performances in several events, the Mustangs and Fillies varsity track and field teams finished second and third respectively in the nine-team NCW meet held at Bridgeport last Friday, April 29.

The Mustangs scored a total of 84 points to come in second behind a strong Royal team that run, jumped, tossed, and threw to 269.5 points easily leading the field. The trio of Edgar Lopez-Casillas, Israel Lopez, and Alex Perea finished 1-2-3 in the 300-meter hurdles. Senior Jesus Torres won both the discus and shot put events.

Filly senior Verania Velazquez led the field in both the women’s discus and shot put events to help the Fillies to a third-place team score of 71 points behind Okanogan (214.5) and Royal (115.5). Senior Miriam Jimenez won the 1600 meters.

The Pateros Nannies took fifth behind second place finishes in the 100- and 200-meter sprints by senior Anna Williams. The Billygoats finished in sixth place.

The Waterville-Mansfield men finished in fifth place and the women took sixth.

The next meet is Thursday, May 6, at Manson for the North Region Championships.
