Daniel Carl Martin
March 9, 1947 – April 9, 2026
Daniel Carl Martin, a devoted Husband, Father, Brother, and Grandfather, passed away on April 9, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 79 years old.
Born on March 9, 1947, in Oakland, California, to Joyce and Carl Martin, Dan grew up with a natural curiosity for how things worked. He was a skilled craftsman and turned that passion into a career as a Machinist, eventually retiring from Shell Oil in Anacortes, Washington. Dan was a dedicated outdoorsman, and in his retirement years, he found peace and contentment living in the Bonaparte Lake, WA area harassing the ground squirrels.
Dan was never one to sit still. Whether he was hunting, fishing, shooting or camping he was at home in nature. In his earlier years he was a CB hobbyist with his well-known callsign “Kool-Aid”. When he wasn’t in the field, he could almost always be found “puttering around the shop,” where his hands were rarely idle, and his mind was always on his next project with his trusty “To do” list.
He was routinely seen patrolling around the gravel roads around his home on his beloved side by side; ensuring that his neighbors were safe and happy.
Dan was the ultimate prankster; he loved messing with people. It didn’t matter if it was a co-worker, family member, or neighbor. His best attribute was that he could “Take it as well as dish it out”. He was that guy who you could turn to at a time of need. And if he didn’t have it, then you didn’t need it.
His greatest legacy, however, is the family he leaves behind. He is survived by his lifelong wife and partner, Sue Martin; his sons, Jason (Beth) Martin and Kevin (Jennifer) Martin; and his beloved grandchildren, Madison, Jake, Austin, and Sarah. He also leaves behind his brother, Steve (Bonnie) Martin.
Dan will be remembered for his work ethic, his love for the rugged beauty of the Pacific Northwest, and the quiet strength he showed throughout his life.
A memorial event is being planned this summer to share stories, memories and just his love for life. Please reach out to a family member for further details.
You will always be loved and you’re going to be missed dad; this is the final sign off for “Kool-Aid” .... Bye for now.
