Fillies find first soccer win with 5-2 victory over Hornets

Pateros up next

BRIDGEPORT – The Fillies varsity soccer team might have thought they had an easy win ahead when they took a 2-0 lead at halftime against the visiting Oroville Hornets on Sept. 26.

That’s before Oroville uncorked two back-to-back goals early in the second half to knot the game, 2-2, and put Bridgeport on notice that the Hornets intended to make a game of it.

It was not until the mid-way point in the second half that the Fillies got on the scoreboard again when senior forward Angie Valdovinos scored with 21:50 left to break the logjam. Valdovinos was not yet done and returned three minutes later to add another goal with 18:08 on the clock. If that did not deflate the Hornets’ surge it was enough to put the momentum back with Bridgeport that added its final goal at 16:34.

The loss is the third in the early season for Oroville who dropped games to Manson  on Sept. 21, and Lake Roosevelt on Sept. 19.

The win is Bridgeport’s first this season following losses to Omak. 3-0, on Sept. 23, Manson, 7-3, on Sept. 19, and Brewster, 6-1, on Sept. 12. Next up for the Fillies is Pateros on the road on Thursday, Sept. 28.
