Hawley, Budrow provide close race for Okanogan County Sheriff

OKANOGAN – The race to watch according to the Nov. 8 General Election preliminary results from the Okanogan County auditor’s office is the one for Okanogan County Sheriff between incumbent Tony Hawley and challenger Paul Budrow.

The first count released by Chief Deputy Auditor Jamie Groomes at 8:44 p.m. election night showed just 23 votes separating the two candidates with Hawley’s 2,977 votes leading Budrow’s 2,954.

The second preliminary count last Thursday, Nov. 10, narrowed the gap to just nine votes, 3,501 for Hawley and 2,492 for Budrow.

In Douglas County the only contested election between candidates was for the position of PUD Commissioner No. 3 between incumbent Aaron Viebrock and challenger Randy Agnew. In that race Viebrock has more than double the votes of his opponent and is on the way to another term.
