Lady Bears fall to Napavine in quarterfinals

Posted

SPOKANE – In a game that was close from the starting bell, the Brewster Lady Bears varsity basketball team lost their quarterfinal playoff battle to the Napavine Lady Tigers, 48-46, in the final minute of the fourth quarter on Thursday, Feb. 29, in the Spokane Arena.

Led by the 16 points of freshman Pepper Boesel – all scored in the second half – Brewster had the ball in the final 12.5 seconds but could not get a good shot off to tie or win the game.

The difference between the well-matched teams was at the free throw line where Napavine hit 19 of 29, while the Lady Bears shot a cool 8 of 21.

To provide an idea of the close scoring, Napavine’s biggest lead – three points – did not happen until early in the fourth quarter when the Lady Tigers held a brief 33-30 advantage. The game was tied twice going down the stretch, the final time when a Kara Schertenleib three-pointer knotted it at 44-all. Through the final quarter it was a Boesel-Jimena Hurtado combination of six points each that helped keep pace with Napavine.

The Lady Bears remain in the hunt for hardware when they meet Toutle Lake at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Mar. 1

  1. Boesel - 16
  2. Schertenleib – 11
