Methow Arts Magazine issue explores tattoos, printmaking in ‘Get Inked’

Posted

TWISP — Methow Arts will release the second issue of its reimagined The ARTS Magazine series on Sept. 4, featuring a theme that examines ink both on paper and on skin.

The full-color publication, titled “Get Inked,” will be distributed with the Methow Valley News and available at businesses and art spaces throughout Okanogan County. The issue explores tattooing, printmaking and the symbolic meanings behind them.

Featured artist Caitlin Cordell, a trauma-informed tattooer and creator of the Unruly Beings tarot deck, uses her work to help people heal and reclaim personal autonomy. Based in Twisp on the land of the mətxʷú (Methow) people, Cordell incorporates intentional mark-making and symbolism to tell stories and support others through trauma.

The issue also highlights the work of Okanogan County printmakers who are producing linocuts, etchings and other ink-based art that carries traditions of resistance, community and craft.

“We wanted this issue to play off the concept of ‘ink’ as both physical and symbolic,” said Sarah Jo, Methow Arts executive director. “There’s power in tattoos, power in printmaking, and power in how artists like Caitlin use their medium to support healing, identity, and connection.”

Founded in 1983, Methow Arts is a nonprofit based in Twisp that provides arts education, public art and community performances throughout Okanogan County. The organization works with the Methow Valley School District to offer creative learning opportunities for all students.

The ARTS Magazine is free and published quarterly.
