CURLEW – The road was good to the Pateros Billygoats last Friday, August 31, as the varsity football team caged the Curlew Cougars on their home field, 56-12.

Coach Marcus Stennes was happy with the win but was already looking ahead to a tougher opponent.

“We have lot we need to work on this week with Republic coming to town on Friday,” Stennes said.

Jeremy Piechalski led the Pateros offense, connected on 12 of 14 passes for 202 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception.

Senior wide receiver Andrew Gonzalez pulled down six catches for 86 yards and two scores.

Junior wide receiver Ivan Ceniceros caught five passes for 112 yards and two touchdowns.

Junior Kobe Thrixton led the ground game with 13 carries for 80 yards.

“This helped open up the passing lanes,” Stennes said.

Sophomore defensive back Eric Espino had a heads-up pass interception that he returned 75 yards for a score in the third quarter.

Pateros plays at home for the next three games, with Republic at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, Yakima Tribal on Sept. 14, and Odessa-Harrington, Sept. 21.
