Pateros rallies for come-from-behind soccer win over Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT: The Pateros varsity girls soccer team came from a goal down to defeat Bridgeport, 4-3, on the road Oct. 17. The teams were knotted 2-2 in the first half.

Nannies head coach Olivia Cronin said junior Alexandra Ruiz scored off assists from eighth grader Coco Cronin.

Ximena Nava scored for Bridgeport at three minutes in the first half and followed that goal 10 minutes later with a second. In the second half the Fillies took the lead when Angie Valdovinos scored in the 56th minute to make it 3-2.

Cronin then scored off a penalty kick with 8:54 remaining on the clock to tie the game, 3-3. Cronin then struck again less than a minute later to give Pateros the 4-3 win.

Bridgeport attempted 17 shots on goal and goalkeeper Olga Avila had 11 saves.

Liberty Bell falls

Pateros hosted Liberty Bell on Oct. 19, for a 4-1 win. Nava scored all four of the Nannies’ goals. Pateros attempted 20 shots on goal and made seven saves.

Volleyball

The visiting Moses Lakes Christian Academy Lions varsity volleyball team took three close games at Pateros on Oct. 16. The Lions won the first set, 25-18, and edged out the Nannies in the next two despite the best efforts by Pateros to keep the games close.

Head coach April Miller said Lexi Vargas and Dylan Miller had seven digs apiece out of 40 total to lead Pateros.

Dakota Lasley led in kills with four, just ahead of Addison Henton with three.

Daniela Espino was 100 percent on 13 serves with one ace. Dylan Miller added two more to the team’s five total.

Bears beat Tigers

The Brewster Bears volleyball girls stopped visiting Tonasket on Oct. 17 in three sets, 25-18, 25-22, and 25-18

Head coach Markie Miller said junior outside hitter Morgan McGuire scored 14 kills behind 17 digs and a hitting percentage of .355. Junior teammate Grace Becker had 13 digs and two aces. Sophomore Maribel Perez had 17 assists.

Football

The gridiron saw a couple of lopsided scores Oct. 20, when the 0-5 Pateros Billygoats, still looking for their first league win, fell to Soap Lake, 50-7, on the road.

Bridgeport hosted Entiat but the home field advantage did not help the 1-5 Mustangs who lost 73-8.

Brewster climbed to 3-0 with a win over visiting Tonasket, 69-33.
