Waterville-Mansfield girls secure third at state tournament

The Waterville-Mansfield girls' basketball team secured a commendable third place at the State Tournament. They showcased their skills and determination through a series of matches that culminated on Saturday.

In the quarterfinals on Thursday, the Shockers displayed a strong offense against Gar-Pal, cruising to a 57-33 victory. Holly Finkbeiner led the scoring with 20 points, supported by Jasmine Garcia with 11 points and Delainey Nelson with 10 points.

However, the semifinals on Friday presented a tougher challenge as Mt. Vernon Christian outpaced the Shockers, handing them a 43-28 defeat. Despite the loss, Delainey Nelson managed to top the score chart for Waterville-Mansfield with 10 points, followed by Holly Finkbeiner with 8 points.

Bouncing back with determination, the Shockers faced Crosspoint Academy in the 3rd/5th place game on Saturday. They dominated the court to secure a 67-38 victory. Jasmine Garcia led the charge with an impressive 21 points, Delainey Nelson added 13 points, and Hanna Nelson contributed 11. Seniors Tiera Miller and Caroline Petersen also contributed 8 and 6 points, respectively.

The team's resilience and hard work throughout the tournament were evident. They concluded their season on a high note, proudly taking home third place.
