Wulf scores 1,068 career basketball points despite COVID

BREWSTER – Senior basketball standout Brady Wulf cleared the COVID-19 hurdle to join the elite rank of Bears’ players who have scored 1,000 or more points in their high school career. The pandemic that cancelled much of the 2020-2021 basketball season was more effective than the best opposing defense at holding Wulf to only 50 points scored in an abbreviated eight game schedule,

Despite that first-year setback, Brady made up for it during his remaining three years to end his high school career with 1,068 points.

• 21-22 – 233 points, 27games
  • 22-23 – 313 points, 28games
  • 23-24 – 472 points, 24 games
  Total:   1,068 points, 87games

It turns out that Wulf could have been benched for his entire first year and still reached the 1,000-point threshold with 18 points to spare. Head coach Michael Taylor presented Wulf with a commemorative ball at the basketball awards ceremony in the high school commons last week. 

Wulf is the first Bears’ player to score 1,000 points since 2019-20 when senior Corey Jarrell and the late Cade Gebbers passed the coveted milestone.

Jarrell cleared the mark late in the season in a game against Tonasket.

At the end of an outstanding junior year, Gebbers punctuated his game-high 34-point performance in Brewster’s state championship win over Life Christian Academy to score his 1,000th career point. Gebbers averaged 20.7 points per game in 2019-20 and earned 2B Player of the Year honors. 

Over the years since 1977, 30 Brewster Bears have made the list of 1,000-point players. Former boys’ basketball head coach Tim Taylor compiled a roster of both boys and girls standouts. In order of point totals, they include:
