Tidbits, April 5

Posted
Did you mastermind any sneaky shenanigans on Sunday to trick your loved ones? The Washington League of Education Voters got into the April Fool's Day spirit with a press release claiming to be overrun by zombies. On the faux website, educationvoters.org/zombies, Bridgeport High School is featured in its own article, wherein the fictitious principal shares his determination to persevere over the zombie apocalypse to maintain its 100 percent graduation rate.

"We don't accept excuses like 'My daughter can't come to school because she has joined the ranks of the undead,'" the principal said in the tongue-in-cheek fake news article.

In real school news, Brewster students met with their teachers and parents last week to discuss their academic progress and share their future goals. The student-led conferences is done twice per year, and Principal Linda Dezellem said about 90 percent of parents attended.

Brewster is also offering citizenship classes. Anyone interested in attending is encouraged to call the school at (509) 689-3418.

The water fountain/splash pad on the Pateros Pedestrian Mall is finished, just waiting for warmer weather. The city will commemorate the completion of the Mall this Saturday with a day-long celebration called Splash into Spring. After the 10 a.m. Easter egg hunt, a ribbon cutting ceremony and sidewalk chalk coloring contest will be held at 11 a.m. on the east end of the Mall. Meanwhile, businesses will offer sidewalk sales and the Pateros Fire Department will host its annual Safety Day. The educational event is just in time for the official start of wildfire season on April 15 in Washington state.
