WENATCHEE — The Community Foundation of North Central Washington has appointed three new members to its Board of Trustees: Kevin Rieke, Rick Wray and Colleen Frei.
The board oversees the foundation’s work and ensures the region’s charitable endowment is managed and protected for future generations. Trustees commit to serving three three-year terms and participate on committees focused on grants, scholarships, investments and governance.
Rick Wray brings more than 25 years of experience in education, having worked with K-12 students and teachers in Washington and Utah. He co-founded Higher Ground Learning in Salt Lake City before launching Spy Hop Productions, Utah’s only nonprofit youth media center. He later founded SHIFT Workshops, a teacher-training organization that merged with the Utah Film Center. Wray now co-owns two Mercantile CoWorking spaces in Wenatchee. His work has earned local and national recognition, including the National Arts & Humanities Youth Program Award presented by First Lady Michelle Obama in 2015.
Kevin Rieke is a second-generation business owner in Leavenworth, operating The Hat Shop and The Wood Shop with his wife, Teddy. A former public school teacher for 13 years, he is active in the Leavenworth Chamber of Commerce, the City of Leavenworth Design Review Board, and the Downtown Steering Committee. He is also a past board member of the Leavenworth Winter Sports Club and a member of the Leavenworth Alphorn Association.
Colleen Frei has lived in the Wenatchee Valley since 2005 and spent 18 years as a partner at Jeffers, Danielson, Sonn & Aylward, P.S., specializing in agriculture, water rights, business and real estate law, and estate planning. She has served on numerous boards and committees and worked with 501 Consultants Inc., including as executive director of the Washington Winegrowers Association. She has extensive nonprofit leadership experience and is committed to supporting community-focused missions.
The foundation also recognized outgoing trustees Betsy Cushman and Karen Wade for their years of service.
Founded in 1986, the Community Foundation of NCW manages $163 million in assets through more than 690 individual funds and has awarded over $63 million in grants and scholarships in Chelan, Douglas and Okanogan counties. More information is available at www.cfncw.org.
