MANSFIELD – From heavy equipment to hand tools and everything in between, the 46th annual Mansfield Lions Auction converted one person’s junk to another person’s treasure on Oct. 7.

Lions Club spokeswoman Lynn Poole said both selection and attendance was typical of past years as buyers from miles around have the town’s once-a-year sale on their must-attend list for great bargains. Large and well-attended as it is, the action is not the only fundraiser the club sponsors to raise money for community causes.

For the second consecutive year Mercury Auctions from Chehalis handled the bidding chores,

The next Lions function is the annual Christmas tree sale in Chelan in December.

“We hold it at the Lakeview Drive-In,” said Poole. “They let us use their parking lot in the winter, so we set up there.”

Mansfield Playday, held every June, is another opportunity for the Club to raise dollars.

“We bring out the cook shack and raise money from that,” Poole said.

The money is basically for community needs,” said Poole. “For glasses, hearing aids, scholarships; if a school function needs money, we donate to them and a lot of stuff in town.”

Berry sales provide another income stream.

“In the summer we take orders for strawberries and raspberries,” said Poole. “Then we go to the coast and pick them up.”

Between the June Playday and the October auction the Lions take orders for dirt and gravel, said Poole. Club past president Brad Murison has a company contact that hauls the dirt and gravel into Mansfield where customers can then pick up their orders.
